E-LIGHTS

WE’RE E-LIGHTS:

An innovative Emergency lighting system you can retrofit to your existing Vessel

What Sets Us Apart:

The E-Lights system ties into the ship’s main battery banks via the 12 volt distribution system and uses compact LED fixtures. This allows for more lights in more places with much longer run time when power goes out. A dedicated control box automatically manages the system—keeping the lights off when AC power is stable and switching them on instantly when it’s lost.

It’s practical, durable, and dependable, not overbuilt or overcomplicated. It’s the way emergency lighting should have been designed from the start.

  • Because the required wires and recommended fixtures are small, it’s easy to retrofit the E-Lights system in an already-completed vessel. It’s designed to work with already existing wire ways.

Keeping your crew safe at sea shouldn’t require constant upkeep. E-Lights keeps things efficient.

  • Typical systems give you the regulated 2 hours of illumination when properly functioning, but there is no way to test each light’s battery life to determine how it will operate in a real emergency. E-Lights are designed to provide hours of light, depending on your installation.

That’s priceless reassurance for your crew.

E-lights meets or exceeds all emergency light requirements outlined in 46 CFR 183.432 [click to learn more].

  • Typical battery-operated emergency lighting is bulky and requires more current, leaving you making difficult decisions about where to install lights for the most basic coverage.

With E-Lights, you’re able to add more light, exactly where you want it. You can even run the floodlight for your lifeboat station with E-Lights, which provides critical safety and peace of mind.

  • Instead of testing each light fixture independently, E-Lights allows you to test all of your lights at the same time, saving significant time in port while meeting safety testing standards.

OUR MISSION

Power When You Need It most

The ocean at night, with a starry purple night sky.

Your crew should never be left in the dark.

Most current emergency light systems give you minimal light sources and unlikely to give the full recommended 2 hours to restore normal power.

E-LIGHTS provides a minimum of twenty hours of power, and you can customize the number of lights you need.

We are the safer solution when it matters the most.

OUR STORY

Meet Mike Rudd, Founder

I’m Mike Rudd, a retired Navy Electronics Technician with 22 years of service at sea. My Navy career gave me a strong foundation in electrical systems, problem-solving under pressure, and making sure equipment worked when lives depended on it.

When I retired, I didn’t step away from the water. I founded Marine Electronics Specialty Services, where I’ve spent more than 20 years working on commercial vessels—primarily tugboats. Over the years, I installed, repaired, and upgraded all kinds of electronic systems. And time after time, I ran into the same problem: emergency lighting systems that weren’t reliable when they were needed most.

The Gulf Titan, of Western Towboat, sails through the Puget Sound. The Gulf Titan has the E-Lights system installed.
Mike, a white man with blue eyes, smiles at the camera. He's a disabled retired military veteran. He wears a tan baseball cap and a gray hoodie.

The standard setups were bulky, limited, and fragile. Each one had the same flaws—internal batteries that wouldn’t hold up, fixtures that had to be replaced too often, and no real way to know if the lights would last in an actual emergency. For me, that wasn’t good enough.

The goal was simple: create a system that works every time.

I’ve always been a hands-on problem solver. Instead of putting up with what was on the market, I designed a better system. That became the E-Lights Marine Emergency Lighting System.
